High school student and keen swimmer Ben Cronin has everything going for him, great friends, hot girlfriend, cool car and the chance at a scholarship which would enable him to train to swim at Olympic level. Things go wrong however when he has a one night stand with new girl/psycho Madison Belle.
The film is a teen re-hash of Fatal Attraction and makes no secret of it, but succeeds as it brings with it a sense of youthful energy. At the time of release most of the cast were relatively unknown yet nearly all have gone on to have great careers, and they deserve it as they are all very likeable and talented. In particular credit must be given to Erika Christensen who plays the part of Madison perfectly without ever crossing the line into overacting.
Whilst Director John Polson injects the film with some creative angles and
edits, you can’t help feeling as though this would be quite boring with a different cast and crew, as the story lacks any real tense set pieces.
Whilst I admittedly felt a little let down by the lack of action and the non-event of a climax, the film is successful because the story is about human interaction and the cast all have great chemistry together, which is something that cannot be faked easily. I believed in these characters and even cared for some of them.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Personally I didn’t feel that the film lived up to the hype surrounding it, but it is still a solid effort.
