Dante Tomaselli graced the horror scene with his horrifying and very psychedelic film DESECRATION. Then he went on to present us with the wicked HORROR which was more like a nightmare on acid than a film. Now we are thrown into a hellish nightmare called Satan’s Playground. But unlike like his previous outings, we are presented something slightly tamer but just as macabre.
At first Satan’s Playground may seem like the ordinary horror film – – a car breaks down in the middle of the woods; the occupants are tormented by local crazies, blah blah blah. But, once again, Tomaselli has managed to make an old storyline feel new again with his wild characters, insane directing and writing and unrelenting tension. Of course, none of this would be possible without some great acting but with a cast of great horror veterans such as FELISSA ROSE, ELLEN SANDWEISS and EDWIN NEAL how could you go wrong? All the actors, throughout the entire film, are at the top of their game. They handled their parts as though they were born to play them.
My only complaint with the film was there were certain characters and events that were left underdeveloped. Sometimes it can be a good thing to let some things go for the sake of tension but that’s not the case here. If certain characters and events were better descripted, I believe it could have added to the tension. But you’ll just have to watch and judge for yourself.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Tomaselli has made a name for himself in the horror business by bringing forth films that break many of “the rules” while at the same time being familiar enough to bring in an audience. His latest outing is no exception. Overall this was a scary fun time. All fans of horror should give this film a try.
