This is actually a hard film to review as it is a good film but it is NOT
a horror film, but as the plot description involved the words Vampires &
Werewolves, every horror site on the web has been anticipating this one
from the get go.
So, last week ever reliable me went to see it to please the masses. After
all there’s no point in it being in the database if no one was going to
review it!!
The story is basically Romeo & Juliet but Romeo is a Werewolf and Juliet
is a Vampire, who is obviously a fan of ‘The Matrix’ and is played by Kate
Beckinsale. The plot is then further complicated by all sorts of politics
that results in a huge fight to resolve the whole mess, which in turn
paves the way for the already in development sequel.
The film itself is highly stylish, completely presented in a bluish tint,
which occasionally turned grey and green (I think. It hurt my eyes after
a while so I may have imagined it). We get all manner of cool wire work
and clever edits along with clever new ideas and weapons, but ultimately
it’s all gloss.
Underworld is a highly stylish action film, with a dark theme running
through it, but horror movie it isn’t!
OVERALL SUMMARY
The element of Vampires & Werewolves is totally irrelevant here, they
could have been Catholics and Jews or meat-eaters and vegetarians for all
I care as the only element needed to move the story along is that they
have to be two different parties.
