Danny and Oxide Pang return with the sequel to their hit horror movie and I have to say it was miles better than the first film.
The sequel sees Transporter star Shu Qi as Joey, who tries to commit suicide after her boyfriend dumps her not realizing that she is pregnant. The suicide attempt is a failure, but following the mythology that most people can see ghosts when they are close to death or near to birth, Joey begins to see terrifying spirits who are apparently attacking unborn babies.
The film benefits straight away from an actual plot as opposed to scare sequences strung together by a lead actress, which the filmmakers themselves are quick to point out was the basis for the first film. Shu Qi gives an excellent performance as the vulnerable Joey and there are a couple of jolts to be had here too.
I pretty much hated The Eye so didn't have high hopes for this, but it more than surpassed my expectations. The ending works very well as it finishes with a knowing wink and it left me feeling satisfied.
