Diane Lane stars in this cyber thriller about a madman torturing and eventually killing his victims via website www.killwithme.com. The rules are simple. The more people who log on to the site to watch, the faster the victims die. It’s up to the cyber crimes division of the FBI to stop the internet menace.
The film starts slowly but effectively with some emotive animal torture and builds gradually and believably to an exciting climax. The film is also frightening because it deals with a subject that is highly relevant to today’s audiences, that of cyber crimes such as fraud, theft, sexual brutality and even murder committed via the internet.
Diane Lane is great here and it’s easy to see why she accepted the role. Agent Jennifer Marsh is a strong woman and it was remarkably refreshing to see her save herself and the day before the film ended on a rather dubious note.
The supporting cast are all likeable and do good jobs and the murder set pieces are well thought out.
OVERALL SUMMARY
The biggest problem I had with the film was the pacing. It does take far longer than it should to make the viewer feel as if it’s all leading somewhere and it also reveals the identity of the killer too early in my opinion. All that aside it’s an entertaining and sometimes gory film that most fans of serial killer thrillers will likely enjoy.
