This is without doubt for me the best of the Chainsaw sequels thanks to a good story, characters that we care about, a good cast and a director who knew what he was doing.
This time a young couple are driving cross country to deliver a car when they run into the infamous cannibal clan, but help appears in the form of a bad ass survivalist!!
I really like this film,so was especially upset that this one was taken out of the hands of Jeff Burr by the scissor happy execs.
William Butler and Kate Hodge in her debut, are well cast as an ordinary likeable couple who encounter something they could not have comprehended, and Ken Foree is kick ass as survivalist Benny who actually puts up a fight instead of losing his grip and being a pussy.
The family including Viggo Mortensen are suitably sadistic though not as frightening or disgusting as some of their other relatives and R.A. Mihailloff is good as Leatherface.
The film definitely has a New Line feel to it (which is a good thing) and when you see it uncut you actually wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.
The score and effects work are also probably the best in the series, and it moves quickly whilst holding your interest.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Definitely my favourite sequel, this is very reminiscent of the Nightmare on Elm street films and actually has a plot that you can easily follow as it wasn’t too badly butchered by the usual fools who think they know better. Jeff Burr knows what horror fans want and if he had been left alone to deliver it this would have been hugely successful. Thankfully, the recent success of the remake has allowed this to be introduced to a new army of fans and so it may finally gain the attention and respect that it so deserves.
