Officer Cordell is back in this sequel to the original cult favourite, and this time he teams up with a serial killer to ensure that the police force has a difficult task ahead of them.
It has been years since I have seen the Maniac Cop movies so I was pleasantly surprised after watching this.
The film begins with a recap of the first movie’s conclusion, before moving quickly onto the new story. The two survivors from the first film, Laurene Landon and the excellent Bruce Campbell return to pave the way for the new blood and both are excellent in their short screen time.
The new recruits left to take on Cordell are Robert Davi and Claudia Christian, who are both fitting replacements and who are pitted against Leo Rossi’s villainous Turkell.
The film has an abundance of wonderful action set pieces, which rival that of any mainstream movie and there are plenty deaths and shocks as well.
William Lustig has clearly spent time developing every aspect of the story, and as a result we get enough horror, action and suspense to ensure we have a great time!!
OVERALL SUMMARY
Since I haven’t seen the original film for some time, I won’t comment on whether or not the sequel managed to better it’s predecessor. What I will say is that Maniac Cop 2 is a solid little movie with an excellent cast of genre regulars, who deliver solid performances, ensuring that the series moved a beat in the right direction.
