HORROR-ON-SEA 2017: SEASIDE HORROR WARMS UP WINTER

Horror-on-Sea 2017: Seaside Horror Warms up Winter

This year's festival was held over two weekends in Southend, in the Park Inn by Radisson Palace Hotel. Friday 20 January's standout movie was 'Savageland' (directors: Phil Guidry, Simon Herbert and David Whelan, 2015, US). A prisoner is convicted to die by lethal injection after he is accused of going on a killing spree in his one-horse town. As he's the town loner, the survivors are keen to see him executed. Cinema verite interviews of the local sheriff and other town worthies add uncomfortable realism, as talking heads say there may be no direct motive for the murders but there's also a lot of local hate.

TWISTED LOVE TRIANGLE CAMPAIGN 'NICOLE, HER EX & THE KILLER' KICKS OFF

Twisted Love Triangle Campaign 'Nicole, her Ex & the Killer' Kicks Off

During the month of February for those who may not potentially be spending a lot of their hard earned cash on a romantic Valentines evening with their better half may feel that their generous donations may well be suited helping to fund director Bob X Akins' new psychological horror project 'Nicole, her Ex and the Killer' instead. It's particularly relevant for those who have had bad dating experiences in the past and would rather forget about their exes. With revenge on her mind and freedom in her heart; Nicole's past, present and future comes to a furious collision when her family visits. All donations will go towards the production costs that will cover cast and crew fees as well as location costs, travel and all other props and equipment required for the shoot.

Frozen Fear: Horror With a Little Extra Chill

Itís been another bitterly cold few weeks and one of the pleasures of a chilly cold night is being able to wrap up warm inside, tuck yourself in and put on a good movie. And whilst Jack Frost may be nipping at your nose thereís more dangers lurking in the whiteout of the snow than just the icy weather. There arenít many places where horror hasnít delved at some point and there have been plenty that take full advantage of those wintry months and bleak, bracing backdrops.

How Horror Games Give Us The Fright We're Looking For

Horror has been a genre which has fascinated mankind for more than three centuries. Horror fiction dates back to the 18th century, but horror films themselves are a much more recent trend. Horror films began to occupy the mainstream media from the start of the 20th century and now in these fast moving times technology has meant that we have been able to successfully enter a whole new era of horror, especially when it comes to more immersive experiences such as horror video games, which tend to provide more fright than ever before.

'DON'T F#CK IN THE WOODS' SAYS NEW INDEPENDENT CREATURE FEATURE

'Don't F#ck in the Woods' Says New Independent Creature Feature

There have been quite a few choice rules when it comes to what you can and can't do in a horror movie. We all fondly remember a fresh faced Jamie Kennedy spouting out specific horror-related rules for when it comes to surviving a horror movie in Wes Craven's genre defining 'Scream' way back in 1996 and since then horror seems intent on showcasing these invariable cliches and conventions and even in some cases creating completely new ones. One thing we have learnt however is what to avoid in horror. Don't run up the stairs to try and escape, don't say you'll be right back and certainly "don't f#ck in the woods"! And writer/director Shawn Burkett certainly hasn't shied away from that last rule with his new project which isn't pulling any punches whatsoever. DON'T F#CK IN THE WOODS is the awesomely memorable title of his new independent horror project and here's some more about the upcoming creature feature. Head below to check out the poster and images from the movie.

ENTERING THE NEXT LEVEL OF FEAR

Posted: 23 November, 2016 at 02:01 AM GMT
Entering the Next Level of Fear

Horror games are all about being immersed. You need to feel like you're right there in Silent Hill, the Spencer Mansion or wherever, so that you can truly empathise with the character you play. The more you feel threatened and scared, the better the experience. This can be tough to do when you're separate from the character you play who's on your TV or monitor, but with VR you are placed right in the middle. You will be in those scary locations, hear strange sounds and you will be the victim, the prey and the haunted. This will make the game more real and help to elevate horror to the next level.

A Trio of New Cast Members Head to AMC's 'The Terror'

'The Walking Dead' and spin-off series 'Fear the Walking Dead' have been hugely successful for AMC and so it comes as no surprise, especially with all the other horror-related shows out there currently vying for ratings, that the network is keen to have another genre based project in the works. Showrunners David Kajganich and Soo Hugh are heading up 'The Terror' a new anthology drama series set at sea. The project is based on the bestselling novel by author Dan Simmons and a new trio of faces have been added to the cast list. British stars Edward Ashley ('In the Heart of the Sea') and Liam Garrigan ('Once Upon a Time') have joined the project along with Irish star Ronan Raftery who plays Langdon Shaw in the new 'Harry Potter' prequel 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.
