Danny Lopes

Danny: "I love his style and he is
an amazing person".

Conducted by Phil Davies Brown
July 12th, 2006

Danny Lopes first appeared on the horror circuit at the tender age of 15 back in 1997, when he appeared in Dante Tomaselli's Desecration.

Danny and Dante have since worked together on each of Tomaselli's film projects, but Danny is keen to branch out and make an impact on the industry in other areas too. Something which he certainly managed to do last month, when he bared all as a Playgirl centrefold.

Read on to see what Danny's current plans for the industry are.

Introduce yourself to your public. Who is Danny Lopes?
I consider myself an energy with the ability to channel. I am an actor, producer, and entrepreneur.

You first appeared to horror fans in Dante Tomaselli’s Desecration. How did you meet Dante?
At an audition for his first feature length film, Desecration. Two weeks before the shoot, back in 1997. Wow, time flies...I was only 15 years old.

You have so far appeared in each movie Dante has made, is this relationship likely to continue?
Of course. I love his style and he is an amazing person. He has been my mentor and has taught me more than I would have ever learned in film school. We understand each other and are best friends.

Which of Dante’s movies has been your personal favourite to shoot and why?
All the shoots are fun. I don't think I have one topping the other. Each film has a different aura. Desecration will always be my "first" movie. That film I will forever hold on to.

Is that also the film which is your favourite to watch?
Right now, I've been glued to Satan's Playground. Anchor Bay will be releasing it this summer.

Danny: "It's scary yet a lot of fun".

Horror fans have been eagerly awaiting Satan’s Playground. Do you think it will be worth the wait?
Definitely! This is what horror fans have been waiting for. It's scary yet a lot of fun.

Did you enjoy working with such an excellent cast on Satan’s Playground?
I was so comfortable. Everyone got along. We all respected each other and were very proud of everyone's achievements. The cast was phenomenal. I learned so much and have such great memories.

Are you a big fan of horror movies?
Yes. I love watching a good scary movie. I love finding horror films on DVD that I would have never known about. Italian horror is very cool. I love the colors.

Do you ever get nervous about working with such big stars of the genre?
Yes, and I also get very excited. I am extremely proud and honored to work with the people I work with. I love it so much.

You model as well as act, what are the main differences between the two professions?
Acting comes first. I feel an actor should be capable of playing a model. The two professions in my eyes are really one.

You were the Playgirl centerfold in May, how did that come about?
I was in touch with the editors of the magazine for years. Randy Jones (The Village People) and Will Grega are close friends of mine. They introduced me to Greg Weiner who took my test photos. A few weeks later I got a call saying I was in. We did the shoot about 9 months ago... I never thought I'd make centerfold and it would be selling out the way it is.

Danny: "I never thought I'd make centerfold".

Were you nervous to appear naked in front of the world?
Not really. Growing up I was always wrestling...we had to weigh in for our classes and usually we would all strip down to shave the extra ounces... I am comfortable with nudity. My family is from Europe, there are nude beaches and TV programs that push US standards. Also, not too many people know - but, there is a scene in Satan's Playground where I am naked.

You have worked in various other capacities in the film industry. Is there anything else you would like to do?
I want to lock down the funds to produce Dante's next film, THE OCEAN. I am ready and confident to work in the industry. There are many opportunities waiting. Also, as many people know, I am executive producing Dante's first audio CD. "Sex, Death & the Supernatural" is going to get people very excited and it will feature cameos from many different famed artists.

What’s the latest on The Ocean, I believe it ran into some distribution problems and lost a cast member (Adrienne Barbeau) too?
Well, The Ocean is definitely going to happen. When Dante says he's going to make a movie - he does. Since the production date has been pushed back casting is likely to change. We now have Margot Kidder (Superman) and Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos) on board. Also, we have genre icons Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Edwin Neal (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Ellen Sandweiss (The Evil Dead), Judith O'Dea (The Night of the Living Dead), Lynn Lowry (Cat People) and many more. The Ocean will be rising soon...

What’s next for you?
One day at a time. I plan to continue acting and working behind the scenes. I am working on many small business ventures and hope they will all be successful. I have some more photo shoots coming up and also have been receiving scripts for future films. I want to keep busy, that's the important thing. Spread my energy around and let people have the chance to get to know me. I'm here to make an impact in the industry.

"Thank you ever so much for taking part in this interview Danny.
And we wish you the very best of luck in the future."
