Laura Giglio

Laura: "I've always been a very
creative person".

Conducted by Phil Davies Brown
June 20th, 2005

Ever since she was a little girl Laura Giglio has wanted to act. From high school and community theatre actress, to self confessed 'Scream Queen', Laura just loves to dress up and put on a show. Read on to see how the lovely red-head made the transition from playing dress up to acting in 'sexy horror movies'.

When did you first become interested in acting?
I've always been a very creative person, since I was a little girl and I used to love acting out my favourite movies with my brothers and my friends. I got my first role in a high school play when I was 15 and I continued acting in school plays throughout high school, as well as competing in state-wide high school drama competitions, where I won several trophies. After high school, I continued acting in community theatre, which I am still very active in, and eventually I began working in B-movies.

How did you get started in the business?
I got started in B-movies in '94 when I was 21. I actually first auditioned for WAVE Productions at 18 and they wanted to hire me, but my parents thought I should wait until I was a little older to start acting in "sexy horror movies", so I ended up turning them down, then a few years later, I called them and they remembered me and cast me in "Sorority Slaughter". I've worked for WAVE ever since, and now work with several other B-movie companies as well.

You also work as a children’s entertainer. Do you feel that this helps you to perfect your craft and gain confidence?
I've always loved children and I really enjoy dressing up as fairytale characters and making kids happy at their birthday parties. It does involve acting, because I really have to make the kids believe that I am the character I'm portraying, which means I have to be ready to answer any questions they ask me about my fairytale kingdom, my fairytale life, etc. and they love the stories I tell them! It's definitely a confidence builder when they hug me and truly believe that I am their storybook heroine!

Laura: "I also love playing a mermaid in
my custom mermaid videos!".

You have done many horror movies, are you a fan of the genre?
I love horror movies! I love suspense and I love to be scared!

What are some of your favourite horror movies?
I've always liked Stephen King. Pet Sematary is one of my favourites, as well as Carrie, Cujo, The Shining and Misery. I also love The Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist, House on Haunted Hill, The Ring, The Blair Witch Project, among many others!

Which role has been your favourite to date?
I've enjoyed playing so many different roles! I guess I'd have to say my roles in Female Mercenaries on Zombie Island, Sorority Slaughter, The Vampire's Curse, and Who Wants to be a Vampire Bride are among some of my favourites. I also love playing a mermaid in my custom mermaid videos!

How valuable have your experiences been on sets?
I have a lot of fun being in B movies! It's great to be able to play so many different characters, work with different actors and actresses and I've really perfected my improvisational skills, since a lot of the movies I'm in require improv!

Have you ever regretted working on something?
I can't really say that I've regretted anything, because I've never done nudity in my films, so that's one thing that won't come back to haunt me in the future. I really enjoy acting and I'm pretty proud of the work I do.

Laura: "Don't be afraid to get bloody!".

Who have you enjoyed working with over the years?
Well, Gary Whitson of WAVE got me started in B films, and I've been working for him for 10 years now. I’ve also enjoyed working with various actresses like Tina Krause, Debbie D, Pamela Sutch, Deana, Suzi Leigh, Barbara Joyce, Kimberly Lynn Cole and Isabelle Stephen, among others. I've also worked with actors/producers Dave Castiglione from Sharkey, Phil Herman from Falcon, Joe Sherlock from F&C, Chris Chaos from Axis, and actors Dean Paul and Luc Bernier.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Scream Queens?
Follow your dreams and don't be disappointed by rejection. And don't be afraid to get bloody!

After 10 years in the business, you have just written a feature; do you have any other aspirations?
I'd like to see if I can get involved with some additional local B-movie companies and I'd like continued success in my field!

What can we expect from you in 2005?
I'm always keeping busy with WAVE movies and WAVE's Female Mercenaries 2 should be available soon as well as a few new WAVE movies, like The Infiltrators and a new movie I'll be working on called Pumpkin Eyes. I'm also in Falcon's upcoming movie, After Midnight as well as a few movies for Axis Video. You can check out my web sites and Yahoo groups for all the latest information at:
