Whilst you may not be able to
find many titles starring Ruben Rox in the UK, this rising horror star has
a great reputation Stateside as being a very hardworking and genuinely
nice guy. I chatted to Ruben about his roles in films such as 'Revenge of
the Unhappy Campers' and 'The House by the Graveyard' as well as his
upcoming projects. Read on for the scoop.
Is it true that you had no
desire to act whatsoever, and that the only reason you got your first job
is because your friends lied about your acting abilities to a crew member?
It's partly true. I never really wanted to be an actor. When I was a kid I
wanted to be a Doctor. Then when I was in High School all my friends
enrolled in the Theater department so I did too. As I began acting in
school plays I realized it was fun and had lots of support from my acting
coaches. Anyway, I got the opportunity to be an extra in a drama film
thanks to my best friend at that time. After the original actor quit, in a
moment of desperation, the casting people started asking all of us extras
if any had any 'real' acting experience, my friends trying to be funny
said I did, so I got the part.
Had you ever studied or been
interested in acting before that and if not have you studied
since?
I only took classes when I was in High School.
Why did you decide to keep at
it?
Probably because people kept asking me to be part of their projects, plus
I always had lots of fun.

Are you a fan of the horror
genre and if so, what are some of your favourite horror movies?
Yes, the Horror genre is my favorite. My favorite films are: Return of the
Living Dead, The Evil Dead and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
What has been your favourite
shoot so far?
Revenge of the Unhappy Campers. It was my first real role, had lots of
dialogue and was the male lead. All of my scenes where shot on location in
beautiful Northern California and met lots of people with whom I've worked
in other films.
Do you have any funny stories
that you could share with us about any of the shoots you've been on?
I don't know if it’s funny or not. When I was shooting 'The Parking Lot
Killer' I was screaming really loud (in the movie I'm stabbed numerous
times in my car) and someone called the cops. Two patrol cars came and we
had to explain we were making a movie... In "The House by the Graveyard"
several of us actors were always scaring each other; this one was filmed
in an actual graveyard. There was always fog in the early morning, one
time after I was done with my scenes one of my co-stars jumped from behind
a tree and I punched him in the stomach. After that he never tried to
scare me again.

What are your future plans?
Currently I'm re-writing a script I wrote a couple of years ago. The title
is "Bloodbath in Happy Woods". I'm hoping to begin filming Spring 2005...
Mid November I'll be working in two very cool films, they are supporting
characters and can't wait, am extremely excited.
What is your goal as an actor?
I'd have to say that it would be to play characters audiences will
remember.
What are your thoughts on the
horror industry and your fellow actors?
Well, I'm happy the Horror genre has made a comeback in the past few
years; on the other hand, I hate all those so-called scary PG-13 rated
movies. I like movies with unrestrained gore and gratuitous nudity... As
far as my fellow actors, I don't really have an opinion, like in any
profession, there are people who are good and people who aren't.
"Thank you ever so much for taking part in this interview
Ruben.
And we wish you the very best of luck in the future."
