Warwick Davis

Warwick: "Goblins and humans were
kept very separate!".

<Conducted by Phil Davies Brown
August 31st, 2005

My next guest may only be 3' 6" tall but his fan following is absolutely huge!! For my 100th exclusive interview I ask about his start in the industry with George Lucas and what it was like to work with both Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Connelly. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you one of the genre's most recognised character actors the evil Leprechaun himself, Warwick Davis.

Everyone knows how you got into acting but can you remember how you were feeling as you waited to go in and see team George Lucas?
At eleven I wasn’t nervous, just excited. This was my chance to be in Star Wars.

You were roughly the same age as Jennifer Connelly when you worked on Labyrinth, did you spend much time with her and what was she like?
She was very nice. Although Goblins and humans were kept very separate!

Warwick: "I do sequels for the fans".

In 1993 you grabbed the attention of horror fans worldwide when you portrayed the titular character in Leprechaun. How did you first hear about the project? Were you approached?
The writer sent me the script. As soon as I saw it was horror I wanted to do it.

What made you want to play the role? Was it the chance to be evil rather than cuddly and cute?
I was worried about being type cast after Willow. This was my chance to show that I could be mean too.

I'm sure you get asked this all the time but what was Jennifer Aniston like to work with? She appears to be quite down to earth.
She was fine...I could tell that she had the makings of a successful actress.

The original film was highly successful. Was it the film's success that made you want to do the sequels?
I do sequels for the fans. Also, I couldn’t bear the thought of another actor stepping into those platform shoes !!!!!!

The franchise was reinvented in 2000 when the Leprechaun headed to the hood. The film was really funny, was it enjoyable to make?
The 'Leprechaun' films are very hard work to make. A very tight schedule. Three weeks of night shoots.

Warwick: "The 'Leprechaun' films are very hard work to make".

I believe you have recently set plans in motion to have a Leprechaun figurine created?
Yes. Keep checking my website for the latest info.

You are also part of the Harry Potter phenomenon with various roles in the movie adaptations under your belt. Which do you enjoy making more, big budget blockbusters or low key indie movies?
I Love acting.

What kind of movies do you like to watch?
80's American comedies, generally anything with Chevy Chase.

Finally, where can audiences expect to see you in the near future?
Harry Potter IV.

"Thank you ever so much for taking part in this interview Warwick.
And we wish you the very best of luck in the future."
