MORE DETAILS ON PARASYTE ADAPTION
Just received the following info in connection with Parasyte.
‘In the last volume of the book series they had a snippet about what they were going to do with the movie. The biggest good news is that they listed percentages of what will be animetronics and what will be cg effects. They said something about working with JimHenson shop.
As for the movie, they are changing a LOT, and I do meen a LOT from the books. The names are the first changed for one thing. Origionally the main charactors name is Shin, not Mike. Next, they say their ripping out the setting where ‘Shin’s’ main charactor development is affected… the school.
They don’t feel an audience can identify with an older ‘high school’ crowd (apparently they forgot about the success of American Pie and such others), and have decided to fill the void with something else. The change in settings affects a lot because ‘Shin’ has to face his peers around the events in the story. The producer’s also talked about loving working with the humor in this story… but the humor stops after the first volume, after the drama of the ‘mince meat murders’ really takes hold.
I really worry about this movie. They also say that it will not be a true book to film adaptation, but rather loosely based on it. How do you summarize 12 volumes of story into an hour and a half? The story has about four acts to it, and rather in depth charactors that developed each other intracetly. I could understand if they only wanted to do maybe the first act of the story as a movie, but unfortunately they never mentioned this.
Hopefully they will surprise us, and it will be a great movie. Oh, and parasyte is a story about creatures that are hunting humanity for food. The themes it portreys (in the books at least) are environmentalism,
mafia/corruption, human nature. A story a little hard to describe, but what’s on your page pretty much states the initial incident.’
