Early rumour has it that Paramount are seeking to push found footage horror sequel ‘Paranormal Activity 5’ back to 2014 and right out of its nicely carved Halloween release week. Every year since the franchise began we’ve seen each installment come at us during October but for reasons yet unknown (or confirmed) it looks like it’ll be slipping out of its 25 October slot and back to 6 January 2014. The story appeared over at The Wrap merely days after producer Jason Blum confirmed the project was on track for its traditional October release. January has proved to be a more successful placement for horrors in past years so perhaps this is a reason for a potential shift?
UPDATE: 18 July 2013 – The rumours are indeed true. ‘Paranormal Activity 5’ has been shifted back to 3 January 2014.
The ‘Saw’ franchise which finally ended in 2010 managed to knock out 7 chapters in 7 consecutive years and yet still managed to sustain a solid consistency. Perhaps the weakening quality of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise should receive a little more production time to help regain some of its former quality.
