TOOLBOX MURDERS ARE OPEN
You might remember a while back the report hit the ‘net that Tobe Hooper, he of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ fame, had new plans in place to direct a remake of the 1978 killer-with-a-philosophy movie ‘The Toolbox Murders’. The original was somewhat controversial when it first came out because of it’s graphic killings, but other than that it really had nothing about it that could benefit from a remake.
Well, since that original story ran not one but two people close to Tobe and the film itself have written to the Creature Corner letting them know that this is NOT going to be what it sounds like. Both scoopers have voiced nothing but excitment for this film, basicaly saying it’s going to put the man back on the map. In fact, according to one source, it’s not even a remake at all.
So why use the name? That’s a head-scratcher, and one we’re going to have a to keep scratching for a while now because everyone that knows any details about the movie are keeping their collective mouths shut. What we do know is that it’s about a ghost story involving an apartment complex in Hollywoood. Fine, fine, so maybe we don’t need plot details…can we at least know who’s gonna be in it?
According to the latest scoopage, Angela (‘May’) Bettis, Brent (‘The Shield’) Roam, Juliet (‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’) Landau, Greg (‘Starship Troopers’) Travis, Sheri (‘House of 1,000 Corpses’) Moon, and Ron Howard’s dad, Rance Howard are all set to star in Tobe’s remake, which if you ask me is a pretty damn impressive cast. The film is set to start rolling this week.
Here’s one last bit of cool info recently gleaned…Seems that ‘May’ director Lucky McKee was set to play the killer in the movie but since his new film for MGM was greenlit he’s had to bow out. Glenn Danzig was also talking about both acting and scoring the film, but he’s got a music career to think of and had to take a pass as well. Either one of those would’ve been really interesting to see, I have to admit, but especially Glenn. When was the last time he showed up on screen? ‘The Prophecy II’, that’s when.
So that is what we know. Soon we will know a lot more, but if this film lives up to the excitement felt from both of the scoopers had on this so far, this could mark a major return for Tobe. The producers have apparently given him total freedom, so let’s hope that means he’s going to take it as far as he can to try and scare us…
