MGM NAB CRIMINAL MACABRE
‘Criminal Macabre’, the new series from ’30 Days of Night’ master Steve Niles, is a tale of Cal McDonald, a drug-addled P.I. that knows monsters exist around every corner, and for some reason can’t stop getting entangled with them no matter how many bottle she drains or pills he pops.
MGM recently nabbed the rights to ‘Criminal’, probably trying to avoid another bidding war that Sam Raimi would’ve beat ’em at again anyway, and some details recently floated to the top about what we might expect from the movie when it hits in 2005…
Niles spoke with E! Online and admitted that the proposed movie concept bears very little resemblance to the actual comic book. He’s currently working on the final draft of ’30 Days of Night’ and then he’ll be on to this one, but he said right now he’s just knocking ideas around.
‘So far, I think it’s going to be along the lines of [the Cal McDonald novel which you can (and should) get here] Guns, Drugs and Monsters. So far, I’m being included on all the decisions on cast and directors.’
Good move on MGM’s part, keeping him in the loop, let’s just hope it stays that way. As far as who might be up for the role, no ideas are in place as of now, but more than likely it won’t be a ‘name’ actor. With a character like Cal you need someone that you don’t associate with anything else, and someone that can carry the role. Not an easy task.
