IFC Midnight have acquired the rights to Jennifer Kent’s Aussie horror ‘The Babadook’ for distribution across the US. The chilling tale of a storybook that holds the key to a mysterious creature haunting Amelia and her 6 year old son Samuel had some response at this months Sundance festival which obviously drew the attention’s of IFC. There’s no official release date planned just yet but we’re sure it’s being lined up for a roll out later this year. Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West, Benjamin Winspear, Cathy Adamek and Craig Behenna all star.
“Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her out of control 6-year-old Samuel – a son she finds difficult to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called “The Babadook” turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babdook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.”
