‘Pacific Rim’ director Guillermo del Toro has announced that both himself and ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ scribe Zak Penn are currently working on a script for ‘Pacific Rim 2’. Del Toro confirmed the news during the premiere of his new TV project ‘The Strain’ over in Austin, Texas. “I’m working very, very hard with Zak Penn,” he told BuzzFeed. “We’ve been working for a few months now in secret.” He also confirmed that the sequel would see the return of Raleigh and Mako, played by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi in the original ‘Pacific Rim’ respectively.
Here’s the rest of what Guillermo told Buzzfeed:
We found a way to twist it around. Travis Beacham [co-writer of the first film, now working on Fox’s Hieroglyph] was involved in the storyline and now I’m writing with Zak because Travis has become a TV mogul…I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one – but you will get really great spectacle.”
‘The Strain’ is set to debut on FX on 13 July.
