With a selection of films set to tantalise any genre fan’s appetite Grimmfest 2014 launches in Manchester on Tuesday 30th September with it’s now famous preview night. Odeon Printworks will play host to a 30th Anniversary screening of Wes Craven’s legendary ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ giving fans new and old a chance to see this horror classic on the big screen. Followed by ‘The Babadook’, a film garnering praise from all quarters, and a pair of exciting short films, this is set to be a night that sets a high standard for the main festival to follow.
That challenge is taken up just days later on Thursday 2nd October as Grimmfest 2014 begins for real with an opening night gala of epic proportions. Alongside screenings of Suburban Gothic from Richard Bates Jnr (Excision) and Melanie Light’s “Vegan Feminist Horror” The Herd sits Let Us Prey, the English Premiere of Brian O’Malley’s Gallic horror. Following this screening the director and stars Liam Cunningham (Game Of Thrones, Dog Soldiers) and Pollyanna McIntosh (White Settlers) are in attendance for a Q & A and signings.
Friday’s highlight is without doubt what will be a sensational experience as Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin play live soundtrack accompaniment to Dario Argento’s classic Suspiria, with the director’s cut of Dawn Of The Dead to follow. The weekend promises not to be outdone with the highly anticipated screenings of What We Do In The Shadows, Zombeavers and Life After Beth jostling for headline status before the Grimmfest 2014 is closed by Ivan Kavanagh’s chilling The Canal.
With appearances from festival favourite Shaune Harrison, Steve Oram and Kelly Byrne among others this year’s festival is not to be missed.
