SCHLOCKTOBERFEST 2003 DETAILS
For the past few months, in between reviewing the latest direct-to-video crappola in search of that rare cheesy gem, reporting on all the upcoming nature run amok movies, and pissing off Debbie Rochon, Ryan Rotten ,over at Creature Corner, has also been busy putting together a film festival in his hometown that he is hoping will become an annual event. It is now with great pleasure that he cordially invites you to attend SCHLOCKTOBERFEST 2003: SCHLOCK & AWE, a 14-hour film festival celebrating cinematic schlock at its finest. Or would that be worst?
SCHLOCKTOBERFEST 2003: SCHLOCK & AWE will take place Saturday, October 18th in Long Beach, Mississippi on the USM-Long Beach campus. It all begins at high noon and wont conclude until sometime around 2 am. Those that attend will be subjected to almost 14 non-stop hours of cinematic schlock and be warned that all movies shown have been hand selected by Ryan, a guy who thinks PINATA: SURVIVAL ISLAND is work of unintentional bad movie genius. Expect a lot of fun as well as some serious pain.
The inaugural events line-up will include (courtesy of the fine folks at Something Weird Video) the worlds first and only jellyfish man movie STING OF DEATH. From 1965 comes this obscure schlocker about a Florida were-jellyfish that kills off a bunch of good-looking twenty-somethings to prove his love to one unsuspecting female. If that wasnt enough, the movie also features the less-than-classic song Do The Jellyfish by Paul Anka.
Joining STING OF DEATH will be 1967s NIGHT FRIGHT in which b-movie icon John Agar has to contend with an extraterrestrial nasty that looks like the love child of Robot Monster and a Klingon. Keep in mind that this movie was made by people who learned the craft of filmmaking from Larry Buchanan, the maker of such films as ATTACK OF THE EYE CREATURES, THE LOCH NESS HORROR, MARS NEEDS WOMEN, and ZONTAR, THE THING FROM VENUS. I assure you that they succeeded in following in their teachers footsteps.
It will all culminate with the Midnight Mystery Movie, one final film whose identity will not be revealed in advance so youll just have to attend to find out. You can read and see more about those movies already mentioned and the rest of the fests lineup by clicking here.
Still not enough incentive for you? Well, theyll also be giving away plenty of door prizes although be assured you that nobody who wins will feel like a winner. Much like the movies, they are hand selecting these as well.
Be sure to check out the entire SCHLOCKTOBERFEST website while youre at it. There youll also find more specifics on the festival itself as well as the regular web column Foyeurism, and if you stop by be sure to check out the Summer Movie Quiz (Its not what you think!) for a chance to win a DVD of something truly awful. Maybe youll even manage to find the easter egg on the front page that has eluded so many? Theres even a Schlock Word Find game for those bored out of their minds.
So for those looking to have a good time watching motion pictures gone horribly wrong this is the event (and the website) for you! And we hope to see you at SCHLOCKTOBERFEST 2003: SCHLOCK & AWE this October.
