FREDDY vs JASON UPDATE
The latest in the big name battle movies that have suddenly become so popular, FREDDY VS. JASON, has gotten the official greenlight from New Line. The film, which will be directed by Ronny Yu (BRIDE OF CHUCKY) and will star Robert Englund as Freddy although the decision hasn’t been made yet as to who will star as Jason. Brad Renfro, who will take time off from breaking the law, will co-star as a teen simply trying to stay alive as he’s stuck between the two battling villains. The project will begin filming earlier this September in Vancouver. FREDDY VS. JASON will be the first of the ‘battle’ films to hit theaters with ALIENS VS. PREDATOR and BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN both planned for 2004.
Variety reports that Brad (APT PUPIL) Renfro will star in FREDDY VS. JASON, and that Robert Englund has been officially signed to reprise his half of the title role. No actor has been decided on for Mr. Voorhees, but Kane Hodder tells us that he has taken meetings with director Ronny Yu. Meanwhile, the company has announced that its TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake will be released on October 31, 2003–the 30th anniversary of the events which spawned the original cult film classic.
