BIG APPLE ANIME FEST THIS FRIDAY
The 2003 edition of the Big Apple Anime Fest, one of the largest celebrations of Japanese animation in the U.S., runs from this Friday, August 29 through Sunday, August 31 at various locations in New York City. One of the most notable events will be the attendance of Satoshi Kon, who hosts the world premiere of TOKYO GODFATHERS (pictured), a highly entertaining, seriocomic tale of three disparate homeless people who take it upon themselves to reunite an abandoned baby with its mother. Kon and his collaborators will also be on hand for screenings of his superb MILLENNIUM ACTRESS (in advance of its limited theatrical release by Go Fish, a new division of DreamWorks, September 12) and the stalker chiller PERFECT BLUE.
Also world-premiering is INITIAL D: THE MOVIE, accompanied by producer/director Ren Usami. In addition, NASU: SUMMER IN ANDALUSIA has its North American premiere, introduced by producer Masao Maruyama; and A TREE OF PALME, with writer/director Takashi Nakamura and Taro Maki appearing, and PARASITE DOLLS have their East Coast premieres. Numerous other notable features will screen, among them THE ANIMATRIX, THE SENSUALIST (both of these with their creators attending), X, SPRIGGAN and the live-action features ICHI THE KILLER (by Takashi Miike) and THE RETURNER.
There will also be talks and autograph sessions with numerous other guest filmmakers, artists and voiceover talents, video screenings, masquerade events, a dealer/exhibitor room and much more. For details including locations and schedule, click on the link above.
