SCREAM FOR ME L.A!
Many of you are probably jotting down a list of films you?ll be watching come October, but if you?ve prematurely picked over your DVD collection to the point of exhaustion one avenue you might want to jaunt down to celebrate the Halloween season (and witness some fresh, independent blood spilling on screen) is the Screamfest Horror Film Festival taking place October 11th (My Birthday!) thru the 19th.
This is their third anniversary and it seems the ghastly event is growing larger by the year (Stan Winston and Guillermo del Toro are serving as judges of the independent film line-up!). While we?re long past entry deadlines for both film and screenplay submissions, the folks at Screamfest assure us it?s not too late to register for Robert McKee?s Horror Day which is being held at the LA Film School on October 11th. Aspiring screenwriters may know McKee as Hollywood?s leading screenwriting guru who holds an exclusive writing class to those who want to hone their storytelling skills. McKee?s most recent book on the craft, Story, has become gospel to many writers in the industry. It?ll be interesting to hear what McKee has to say about the art of fear.
If you?re stoked about hearing more, visit the Festival?s official website or call 310-358-3273; they?ve apparently worked out a deal with Southwest Airlines if you?ve got some cash to spare and want to pay a visit la-la land.
