URBAN TALKS RIDDICK TONES
Don’t expect much in the way of gleaming starships, well-groomed imperialists or colourfully jump suited characters in the ‘Pitch Black’ sequels – things are on the rough and tumble side when Vin Diesel his the galactic frontier. In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Kiwi actor Karl Urban (best known as Eomer in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movies) had some interesting things to say about the tone of this film as compared to the genre at large: ‘It’s about time we reclaimed science fiction and made it dark. It’s gotten a little candy on us lately, but we are going to flip that’. Urban’s entire role in the movie is that of aiming to take Vin down – ‘[I’m] a deadly enforcer of a dark place. Vin is prey for my part. I mean, in this film you’re either the hunter or the hunted’. Shooting is about to wrap up in Vancouver and a teaser trailer is rumoured to be hitting theatres before year’s end.
