BEWARE WHAT IS WITHIN THE WOODS
Back in 1590, a supply ship showed up to the small colony on Roanoke Island to find it deserted. Completely abandoned, not a sign of life within the the little island, and no word from the 117 men, women and children that disappeared.
So why hasn’t this been made into a movie yet?
Just such a thought occurred to indie writer/director R. Michael McWhorter when he came up with the idea for his first feature length film (after many award-winning shorts), Within The Woods. It has no relation to the early Sam Raimi film of the same name, though it did start off as an homage to the Evil Dead films.
McWhorter let the idea stew, and it eventually evolved into the plot for Within The Woods, which concerns four men trapped on an island and relentlessly pursued by the demon that caused the disappearance from Roanoke Island, as well as the now-undead denizens of the land mass.
So officially it’s not a story of the disappearance of Roanoke Island’s residents, which the director said would’ve been too expensive for a first-time feature, but it does sound like it has some cool potential. The creature you see above there is some test makeup for the zombie-like slaves to the demon, and if they all turn out that cool looking I think we could have something very cool on our hands.
We’ll get more info on Within The Woods as it gets closer to production.
