DATE SET FOR VILLAGE & AMITYVILLE
Variety reports that Dimension Films has set an August 20th, 2004 release date for AMITYVILLE, its entry in the race to get a new movie about the allegedly haunted Long Island house to the screen. As we previously reported here, MGM plans to get its own AMITYVILLE HORROR into theaters next September 3, so its no surprise Dimension has claimed the date two weeks prior. Whether either company can actually get its film (neither of which has a completed script, much less director or cast announced) done in nine months remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, the trade has also announced that Disney has settled on an August 6, 2004 debut for M. Night Shyamalans THE VILLAGE. That ones a no-brainer, since the early-August slot worked box-office wonders for the director and studios previous THE SIXTH SENSE and SIGNS.
