VAN HELSING & DIRECTOR PIC
In addition to the pictures recently posted from Empire magazine, Hugh Jackman fansite Jackman’s Landing has transcribed the full article and added another picture as well of director Stephen Sommers and Jackman on the set of Van Helsing. Here’s a clip from the feature…
Forget Peter Cushing’s portrayal in the Hammer movies – this incarnation of Bram Stoker’s fabled vampire hunter is a very different beast. First off, he’s played by X-Men 2 star Hugh Jackman, in his first bona fide lead role. ‘This is the younger, more adventurous version, and there’s no real reference to him having gone to university or being particularly cerebral in any way,’ says the Aussie actor, who sports long hair extensions for the role.
‘Van Helsing is not particularly an iconic character, and I think it’s a very clever way to enter into the world. He’s a man of action, of few words, more instinctual than cerebral. He’s forgotten things and he doesn’t know why. He doesn’t know if there’s a particular incident he’s trying to cover up, and that’s what he’s about to find out. And this mission that he’s sent on, with Dracula, kind of encapsulates all of that.’
