GENRE FARE DEBUTS AT SUNDANCE
Variety reports that a number of fright features will premiere or have early U.S. screenings at this year?s Sundance Film Festival, running January 15-25 in its usual Park City, UT location. Three films in the Premieres section are of genre interest: the ghost story THE MACHINIST, from director Brad (SESSION 9) Anderson, writer Scott (TEXAS CHAINSAW remake) Kosar and Brian Yuzna/Julio Fern?ez?s Fantastic Factory, starring Christian Bale and Jennifer Jason Leigh; TRAUMA, director Marc Evans? follow-up to MY LITTLE EYE, about a man (Colin Firth) haunted by the spirit of his recently deceased wife; and THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, J. MacKye Gruber and Eric Bress? thriller in which a young man (Ashton Kutcher) realizes he can alter events from his past, only to cause unpleasant repercussions in the present. In addition, the fest?s Midnight section is hosting Alexandre Aja?s French gorefest HAUTE TENSION, Ryuhei (VERSUS) Kitamura?s bloody war actioner AZUMI and James Wan?s medical thriller SAW.
