CUBE ZERO GETS SQUARED AWAY
With almost as much secrecy as the nefarious government project it depicts, the second sequel to Vincenzo Natalis CUBE recently wrapped production in Toronto. CUBE ZERO is written and directed by Ernie Barbarash, a writer and producer on the previous CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE, with a largely unknown cast headed by Zackary Bennett, David Huband, Stephanie Moore, Michael Riley and Martin Roach.
The movie is co-produced by digital FX outift Mr. X, which is also creating the CGI. A press release from the company says of the storyline, We once again find our unwilling participants frantically moving through a peculiar construct of cube-shaped rooms, each holding the potential threat of hideously inventive and painful death. However, finding the exit is only the beginning of an even worse nightmare. Even as we start to learn more about who and what is behind the Cube, we are left with even more questions as the cosmic mysteries of the Cube universe are revealed.
Barbarash is further quoted as saying, I hope that we raise at least as many questions as we answer. After all, that was one of the most successful elements of Vincenzo’s originalits philosophical questioning was really the heart of the film. He adds, The traps are much more physical and raw than those we had in HYPERCUBE. Lions Gate backed the production and will release it next spring.
