LIONS GATE SEES SAW
Variety reports that Lions Gate has added yet another promising indie horror to its lineup: SAW, the first film by Australian writer/director James Wan and writer/actor Leigh Whannell. Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Monica Potter also star in the film, which centers on a psychopath who has murdered several people and captured two men (Elwes and Whannell), whom he subjects to horrifying tests of survival. Wan and Whannells stars have been rising fast ever since their sample scene from the movie (in which Whannell has to extract a key from another persons stomach to open a device primed to tear his lips off!) got around Hollywood. The duo are now set to write SHHH for Universal, another shocking tale in which a young man just returned to his home town tries to determine whats responsible for the series of tongueless corpses that have been turning up there; Wan hopes to direct and Whannell to star in the movie as well. Meanwhile, SAW will premiere in the Midnight section of this months Sundance Film Festival; look for a first review on this site from our Sundance correspondent in the coming weeks.
