JU-ON GETS EARLY DATE
The Walter Reade Theater at New York Citys Lincoln Center has selected Takashi Shimizus JU-ON as part of its Film Comment Selects series. Under the title of THE GRUDGE, the movie will play, appropriately enough, on Friday, February 13 at 6 and 10 p.m. Tickets go on sale this week; see the site linked above for more details. JU-ON is the first of two feature films based on a pair of previous video productions (all directed by Shimizu) following a curse born from a dead persons terrible anger that afflicts a series of victims. Lions Gate has general U.S. distribution rights to all four movies and plans to release them around the time of the Columbia/Ghost House Pictures American remake (also helmed by Shimizu and titled THE GRUDGE, and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar), which begins shooting in Tokyo this month. Look for an interview with Shimizu on the whole JU-ON series in FANGORIA #231, on sale March 18.
