MORE LIVING DEAD SEQUELS?
While attending the FANGORIA Weekend of Horrors convention, actor-turned-filmmaker William Butler sat down with Fango to chat about his upcoming projects. Our new project that were about to do is called CIRCLE OF SIX, and its sort of my writing partner Aaron Strongonis and my homage to THE FOG, which we love; its an amazing film. Its basically about a curse placed on this small town where these six witches come back to wreak havocto get vengeance for their wrongful deaths.
Originally, Butler and Strongoni planned to follow up MADHOUSE with INK, about a backwoods tattoo artist whose skin art curses those who wear it. We were gonna do that one before we did CIRCLE OF SIX, but Lance Henriksen, whos gonna be in the project [and appears in MADHOUSE], is doing ALIEN VS. PREDATOR, so of course we had to take a backseat to such an awesome filmand gladly, were huge fans. We happily deferred to that because we cant wait to see the film ourselves. So we dont really know who were gonna do it with yet; we have independent financing, but we havent found a company yet that we want to distribute it.
As for MADHOUSE itself, We just locked the picture, we mixed it, its all done and Lions Gate is currently deciding whether or not its coming out during spring break or at Halloween. It turned out really good, Im very happy with it. Jordan Ladd gives a fantastic performance, and its nice to see Joshua Leonard in a leading role, which he hasnt done before. He really carries the film and did a fantastic job.
Finally, Butler reports that the pair of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD sequels he and Strongoni wrote (and which we first reported on here) are getting closer to becoming a reality. Finally, after 20,000 false starts and dead ends, Steve Scarduzio is gonna be producing RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 4 and 5, says Butler. The first one is called NECROPOLIS, and its about kids breaking into an experimental mutation labskateboard punks with shotgunsand its like a living PlayStation game. Its awesome; it has the same vibe as the first one. Part five is called RAVE FROM THE GRAVE, where these kids realize that if you take Trioxin in very small doses you can have a life-after-death experience. So it becomes like a big rave drug.
Tobe Hooper was originally announced as director of the duo, and Butler adds, I know hes talking to them, and theyre also talking to Stuart Gordon, so it all depends on their scheduleswhos available and where theyre gonna film it. Theyre talking about either shooting it outside the country or shooting it in LA, and that has a big effect on whos gonna be the director. So Im really stoked about that.
