LIONS GATE DIVES INTO OPEN WATER
Variety reports that Lions Gate has snapped up yet another buzz-building independent fear film: OPEN WATER, which (like recent acquisitions HAUTE TENSION and SAW) is playing at this months Sundance Film Festival. Written and directed by Chris Kentis, WATER is based on a true case of two people on a scuba-diving outing who were stranded in shark-infested waters after their tour boat departed for shore without them. In the movie, Blanchard Ryan and Daniel Travis play a couple left floating in the open sea who must deal with both the psychologial trauma and the very real danger of the circling sharks. Lions Gate, which bought worldwide rights to the movie, plans a summer release in the U.S.
