A WHOLE NEW EXORCIST
A major feature article in the Sunday New York Times reveals that the reshoots on the troubled EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING are even more extensive than many people may have been aware. The piece states that new director Renny Harlin, who took over for Paul Schrader after Morgan Creek execs were displeased with his cut, didn’t just shoot extra sceneshe’s currently wrapping up 12 weeks of essentially filming an entirely new movie, keeping only the Morocco exteriors Schrader had lensed. A number of new actors were hired to join star Stellan Skarsgard in the picture, with three new writers and Harlin himself scripting new scenes, augmenting and replacing the screenplay originally penned by William Wisher and rewritten by Caleb Carr. The total budget for all the new material is between $24 and $36 million, and a release date has not yet been decided upon.
