GINGER SNAPS 2
Sequels rarely manage to live up their predecessors, and it’s even worse when they are set outright to become direct-to-video. But sometimes one comes along that doesn’t sound as bad as it could have been.
Those wacky lycanthropes over at Filmjerk managed to get their hands on a lot of cool info about the upcoming sequel to last years’ indie cult hit, ‘Ginger Snaps’ (review). We’ve already been told that both Ginger and Bridgette return for the follow up, but it’s not as bad as it seems.
Beginning almost immediately after the first one, Bridgette is now on the run from her quiet suburb of Bailey Downs, and on the way she tries to prevent what happened to her sister from happening to her by shooting up with monkshood. Eventually she collapses, however, and the police that pick her up assume the monkshood is a drug, so off to rehab she goes.
Once inside, she is deprived of the only thing that will stop her from turning into a beast and killing everyone and everything in her way. That’s a problem. She meets a girl who is quiet and not well-liked, much like herself, by the name of Ghost that helps her deal with her new problem and try to escape the curse. I beat she gets her first period along the way, too.
Yes, Ginger will be featured, but only in dreams and a few other ‘key sequences’.
Filming is set to begin in January under the helm of Brett Sullivan, the editor on the first film. The original’s director, John Fawcett, is executive producing it, and apparently sees the whole concept as a positive follow up to the original.
We shall wait and see. For more details on the plot than we could go into here, check out the Filmjerk.
