THE MUMMY ROLLERCOASTER RIDE
Just in time for Universal Studios Hollywood?s 40th anniversary, the theme park will open ?Revenge of the Mummy? The Ride? this June. This indoor attraction will merge rollercoaster and visual FX technology that takes riders on a trip into a world based on Stephen Sommers? MUMMY movies. Guests will begin by walking through the Tomb of Imhotep, where they?ll be warned not to enter; when they inevitably do, and must escape, they?ll board 16-passenger ?mine cars? that will whisk them through a series of setpieces designed to play on the basic human phobias (from fear of heights to fear of insects). The ride will boast both forward and backward motion along a third of a mile of track, the voice of the movie?s star Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep and state-of-the-art visual, animatronic and audio FX to create what the studio calls ?the world?s first psychological thrill ride.? Sommers himself was one of the ride?s designers.
