KASSOVITZ’S LEGEND & GOTHIKA SERIES
Moviehole has reported that GOTHIKA director Mathieu Kassovitz is angling to take the helm of the long-mooted big-ticket film version of Richard Mathesons I AM LEGEND, which was once slated to star Arnold Schwarzenegger. ‘We are seeing a lot of different people for it,’ Kassovitz tells the site. ‘Unfortunately Arnold cant do it, because hes governor, but he would have been great. A lot of projects in Hollywood get thrown about and never see the sun, so heres hoping this one does happen.’ He also says that while a theatrical sequel to GOTHIKA, which stands as the most successful Dark Castle production, probably wont happen, a small-screen follow-up might. ‘Weve talked about doing a TV series based on it,’ Kassovitz reports. ‘The film was a success so we have been talking over ideas. I dont know if it will happen, but it probably should; itd make good TV.’ One could argue that Stephen Kings KINGDOM HOSPITAL show has already tackled similar ‘institutional’ material, and unfortunately it doesnt seem to be catching on; Variety reports that ratings for this past Wednesdays second installment of the show slipped a troubling 33 percent from the successful premiere.
