TWICE THE LEGION?
What is it about the Exorcist series that makes studio money men get all feverish in the brain thus prompting them to be very controlling about these films? Warner Bros. hustled The Heretic into theaters like their ass was on fire and turned in a piece of shit. The latest installment, The Beginning, is having one helluva time getting completed (and evidently exists as two completely different films now). And even William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist III faced its own trials and tribulations when Morgan Creek and 20th Century Fox got antsy about the film’s conclusion resulting in a muddled mess.
That all appears to be rectified soon according to Captain Howdy, an Exorcist fan site, who recently got word from a Morgan Creek rep that Blatty’s version of Legion is in the works for DVD. Naturally, Blatty’s voiced his excitement and the search for the missing footage is on. Consider this a project fresh out of the womb so don’t expect a release date right away. However, this news peaked interest and an old Fangoria was dug up that looks into the excised sequences and alternate ending. You’ll be able to find Mark Kermode’s article in issue #122 (May, 1992).
