CABIN FEVER’S COMING
Recently Lions Gate Films won the battle for Cabin Fever, which is being compared to as the Evil Dead of the 2000’s. It looks like we have a confirmation on when this film will be availible to our eyes…..
UHM took the time to email director Eli Roth and find out when we can expect this flick….
‘A lot of people were asking what was going on with a little film known as Cabin Fever and if it was actually going to get a theatrical release or not, so I decided to ask the director himself, Eli Roth, and he was more than enthusiastic with his reply… ‘
‘I am psyched to tell you that Cabin Fever will have a wide theatrical release. We were lucky enough to be the prize in a bidding war between seven studios (including New Line, Miramax, Revolution, UA) and the winner was Lion’s Gate, who made a very aggressive offer. It was the most money they have ever paid for an acquisition, and they committed $12 million to prints and advertising, which is the most money they have ever spent promoting a film. This will guarantee anywhere from 1,500 – 2,000 screens.
Even better, we submitted our film to the MPAA and miraculously got an R. Don’t ask me how, but I’m thrilled. I was worried we’d get slapped with an NC-17. So now horror fans will have all the red meat they can stomach before throwing up. We competed in the Sitges Film Festival this year in October, and K.N.B. Efx group won best Special Make Up Effects! We were up against some great horror films, so it’s a pretty big honor.
Lion’s Gate has not yet set a release date, but they are going out with the film this summer. As soon as I have any more specifics, I will let you know.
I’m really, really, really excited to see what happens when the film is released. We made it completely independently for a low, low, low budget, and now it’s going out wide in theaters. All the other studios are watching this film very carefully, because if it does well, it will help out all indie horror filmmakers get funding for their projects.’
