ANCHOR BAY UK RELEASES
On the heels of a previous announcement about plans for the U.S. release of Jim VanBebber’s THE MANSON FAMILY, now Variety reports that Anchor Bay UK has grabbed British rights to the movie. And not only does the company have it for video, but MANSON will be the first in a series of AB UK theatrical releases in England. Because of the film’s graphic nature, it will have a limited run in London’s West End beginning July 23, but subsequent titles on the schedule will go wide, including such eagerly awaited chillers as Tobe Hooper’s TOOLBOX MURDERS and the Spierig Brothers’ UNDEAD, as well as Don Coscarelli’s BUBBA HO-TEP.
The theatrical dates will be followed, of course, by DVD releases by AB UK, no doubt with the company’s usual heaping helping of extras (which may well hit in advance of the U.S. disc debuts of some titlesLions Gate isn’t planning to unleash UNDEAD Stateside until 2005). And if that isn’t enough to whet the appetites of all-region-player owners everywhere, also coming down the line from AB UK are an eight-disc (!) HALLOWEEN boxed set, a PHANTASM box and a Wes Craven box with films to be announced. Other future releases mentioned on the company’s site are Bob Clark’s CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS (July), Olaf Ittenbach’s BEYOND THE LIMITS (August) and Charles Martin Smith’s TRICK OR TREAT and Robert Hammer’s DON’T ANSWER THE PHONE (dates TBA).
