JAPANESE HORROR IS COMING IN KUON
A Japanese survival horror video game has been picked up for North American distribution. Set approximately one thousand years ago in Kyoto during Japan’s Heian era, KUON allows players to explore a mysterious castle in the town and face off against nightmarish monsters, mutated creatures and deadly spirits.
As the game begins players can choose between three characters: Utuski, a teenage girl in search of her father; Doman, the local exorcist (called a ‘Onmyoji’) sent to the castle to investigate the strange occurances; or Sekuya, one of Doman’s followers. The game starts off with two chapters called ‘Chapter of Shadow’ and ‘Chapter of Light’ before proceeding into the full game, ‘Chapter of Kuon’. You can fight off monsters using real period weapons from that era of Japanese history, learn new spells to cast magic and summon different creatures to do your bidding, and solve puzzles and mini-games that unlock more of the game’s plot.
Agetec will distribute the English version of KUON exclusively for the PlayStation 2 this winter. Additional screenshots and clips from the game can be downloaded from the Agetec website. A price point hasn’t been announced as of yet.
