NEW DATES FOR BOOGEYMAN & DARK WATER
Screen Gems has set a release date of February 4, 2005 for BOOGEYMAN, the first movie to roll for Sam Raimi and Rob Taperts Ghost House Pictures. Stephen T. (GET CARTER) Kay directed the film, about a young man (7TH HEAVENs Barry Watson) who believes that the titular phantom devoured his father 16 years ago, and returns to his hometown to confront the creature as an adult. (See Fango #234, currently on sale, for Raimis comments about the project.) The movie, which co-stars Emily Deschanel and Lucy Lawless, was lensed (in New Zealand) before Ghost Houses THE GRUDGE, but that Takashi Shimizu film will open first (October 29 from Columbia).
GRUDGE is part of a three-pronged Japanese-remake invasion, a race that continues to heat up. A source tells Fango that Disney is now angling to get DARK WATER, the Walter Salles-directed redux of Hideo Nakatas chiller starring Jennifer Connelly, into theaters October 15. The move up from a previously mooted November date would get WATER onto screens before both GRUDGE and Nakatas own THE RING 2, which despite being before the cameras now is still slated for a November 10 berth.
