ANTS MARCH THROUGH NAKED JUNGLE REMAKE
Variety reports that Paramount has launched a remake of the 1954 nature-amok pic THE NAKED JUNGLE, and has signed Jonathan (THE PUNISHER) Hensleigh to write and direct. The original, directed by Byron Haskin and produced by George Pal (whose THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is also being updated by Paramount), starred Charlton Heston as a South American plantation owner fighting against an army of oversized, voracious ants. The new version will be set in the present day and inevitably, Hensleigh told the trade, The ability to use CGI effects to show the ferocity of this supercolony of ants gives a new dimension to the project. Jim Jacks and Sean Daniels Alphaville, whose credits include the CGI-packed MUMMY updates, will produce.
