CLIVE BARKER SPEAKS!
The Creature Corner reports:
‘It seems like it’s been a long, long time since we’ve been able to dig through a big, thorough interview with artist/writer/director Clive Barker. We’ve heard of movies and rumors of movies, we’ve seen new figures come from his twisted mind, and maybe we were even smart enough to read the first Abarat book. But when was the last time Clive really dished on the info?
Well, the fantastic fan site for all things Barker has remedied that and then some. A brand-new, HUGE interview with the man has gone up, in which he discusses everything from the future of Abarat, to his artwork to some a new collection of short stories he’s working on (including the last Hellraiser book). As is always the case, Clive is juggling many, many balls in the air right now, but he couldn’t be happier. Here’s some highlights:
On the Tortured Souls movie: ‘I came home to address the notes which Universal had given me, which are not massive, on the draft which I’m now working on – it’s in front of me here. And I will, that’s what I will work on ’til it’s delivered, which hopefully will be sometime later in the summer. It will then be Universal’s choice to make it or not make it.’
On a new series of films based on stories from The Books of Blood: ‘The deal is done. I came back to greenlight it, so it’s now rolling forward.’
On The Infernal Parade, the latest line of figures from McFarlane based on Clive’s designs: I think that these are easily the most beautifully crafted – just on the level of sculpting – of the three sets that I’ve been involved with Todd on. They really are exclusive, and what’s nice for me is they’re a new thing; they’re not really horror, it’s something different.’
