MORE RING 2 CASTING
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Meagen Fay joined the cast of DreamWorks THE RING 2. Winstead, a veteran of the horror-tinged soap opera PASSIONS as well as the WOLF LAKE series and the MTV creature feature MONSTER ISLAND, plays the younger incarnation of the character portrayed by Sissy Spacek, while Fay, whose credits include KINGDOM HOSPITAL, is a suspicious neighbor of Rachel (Naomi Watts). Once set for a November 10 debut, the sequel, helmed by original Japanese director Hideo Nakata, will now open in early 2005.
Meanwhile, Sci Fi Wire talked to Watts, who said that in the follow-up, I actually feel that the emotional arc is a little stronger. [Doing a sequel] is nerve-wracking, because you think, Well, Ive done that. What else can I do? But theres also something challenging about that, too. Showing how this person has grown, and how do you play these horrible things that shes had to live through? She is responsible for a lot of death, and so, I think, living with a huge thing. But shes trying to be a more caring and responsible mother, and thats how it starts out. Its less detective work and more about, how do I save my child? The actress also hints, Theres a lot of other ideas that have been introduced, but I cant tell you. Its way too early. Its not just the tape and the phone.
