FRIDAY FX ARTIST DIES
Variety reports that Martin Becker, co-founder and co-owner of the Reel Efx company who worked on FX for several of the FRIDAY THE 13TH sequels, died of pancreatic cancer on, ironically enough, this past Friday the 13th of August, at the age of 49. He made his debut on the Jason franchise with 1982s 3-D PART III and also supervised the non-makeup FX on the following years THE FINAL CHAPTER. He moved up to handling the makeup FX as well on PART V: A NEW BEGINNING (pictured) and PART VI: JASON LIVES, supervised Magical Media Industries work for John Carl Buechler when the latter directed PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD and wrapped up his involvement with the series on PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN. Becker also did FX work for FRIDAYs producer Frank Mancuso Jr. on the slasher satire APRIL FOOLS DAY and another dimensional film, the 1983 comedy THE MAN WHO WASNT THERE.
