GUILLERMO EXPLAINS ROGER’S EXCLUSION
Empire Online recently held a live webchat with director Guillermo del Toro, who explained why fan-favorite character Roger the Homunculus, while previously planned for the sequel, is now going to be left out:
Antonleroy: Comic book geek question! Will we see Roger in the next movie?
Guillermo: We tried to do an entire sequel based on the Roger origin story, and found it to be actually very similar to what Hellboy is in the first movie – a conflicted monster. So the sequel will have another BPRD member, Johan the Ectoplasmic Agent.
del Toro also notes that whole actor Doug Jones was revoiced by David Hyde Pierce for the part of Abe Sapien in the first ‘Hellboy’, he will get a second shot at using his own voice for the sequel. He also mentions that he would love to see ‘Hellboy’ as a trilogy, but that’s the studio’s decision.
