YORK TO EXPAND INTERNATIONAL SALES
SETS TO HIT AFM 2003 WITH NEW LINE-UP OF TITLES
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif.-(Feb. 11, 2003) A reflection of its growing success as a dominant independent in the U.S. home video market, York Entertainment is quickly becoming a one-stop shop for international buyers as well. The thirteen-year old company is one of the few independent success stories in Hollywood boosting a library of nearly 400 titles, including chart-topping titles such as Bling Bling, which hit the number six spot on Billboard’s rental chart. The company was one of Video Business’ ‘Ones 2 Watch’ for 2002 and CEO and President Tanya York has been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 100 most powerful women in Hollywood.
York’s international division was established because of growing global demand for its feature films. York is going to its second AFM with a strong diverse slate of films including seven new features and the popular Scarecrow franchise, York International expects brisk business in their office located at suite 622 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. ‘Sales have been so overwhelming that we’re increasing in-house production to one film a month to meet demand,’ said veteran sales executive and head of York’s international division, Gregg Ratinoff. ‘Our phenomenal growth has required us to move into a new multi-million dollar, 4,800 square-foot facility in L.A., giving us room to expand international sales activities and production,’ he added.
Already a leader in the urban genre, York is experiencing phenomenal success with its other offerings including: horror, Latino, teen comedy and action films. Current new offerings from York Entertainment include Scarecrow: Resurrection (working title) a new installment in the wildly successful Scarecrow franchise, Chupacabra (in production) a terrifying rendition of the creature legend, Hood Angels (starring multi-platinum rapper Juvenile), Scarecrow (York’s debut horror production that’s taking fear to a new level), Vatos (starring Latin heartthrob Maximillian), Out Kold (starring Ice T, Kool Mo Dee and Tiny Lister, Jr.), Scream Bloody Murder (a teen comedy in the vein of Scary Movie), and Black Listed (starring Vanessa Williams, Heavy D, and director-actor Robert Townsend).
‘I am thrilled that my company has broken into the international market place with such a bang,’ said Tanya York CEO and President of York Entertainment. ‘For the past 12 years we have primarily focused on U.S. distribution and production; now we are a full fledge studio selling our library of both produced and acquired products worldwide.’
