SPANISH 6-PART HORROR FILMING
Variety reports that PELICULAS PARA NO DORMIR (FILMS THAT WONT LET YOU SLEEP), a series of six TV horror movies produced by busy Spanish genre house Filmax, begins rolling this month. The PELICULAS (trimmed down from the originally planned 12 projects) will be directed by Spains hottest genre directors. Alex (DAY OF THE BEAST) de la Iglesia is up first with a tale called THE CHILDS ROOM, and Jaume (THE NAMELESS) Balaguerll close out the productions with ENTER TO LIVE. Somewhere in the middle, veteran filmmaker Narciso IbaSerrador, creator of the killer-kid cult fave WHO COULD KILL A CHILD?, will helm EL SER. The other directors involved are Mateo (NOBODY KNOWS ANYBODY) Gil, Paco (ROMASANTA) Plaza and Enrique Urbizu (BOX 507 and a co-scripter on Roman Polanskis THE NINTH GATE). Each movie will run an hour, with a budget of about $3.2 million per; de la Iglesia and Serrador told the trade that the series is influenced by the recent Japanese trend of psychological terror, with many involving children.
