VAMPIRE PIC SCAB WRAPS
Independent producer Arik Ben Treston reports to Fango that he and co-producer Randall Walk recently completed principal photography on their first feature film, the ‘alternative vampire thriller’ SCAB. Written and directed by Thomas Jason Davis, the movie is about Ajay (Sean Galuszka), a young man whose one-night stand gives him a bite that turns him into a bloodsucker. He recruits a couple of friends to travel to Las Vegas with him in search of a cure for his condition, and bloody havoc ensues. Natalie Avital, Richard Alan Brown, Dan Glenn and Susan Spano co-star.
‘SCAB takes the inherent homoerotic undertones of vampire movies and pushes them to the forefront,’ Treston tells Fango. ‘It tweaks the genre and reappropriates the clich but pays respect to horror conventions. In addition to the explicit gay angle, the gore and subversiveness will offer crossover appeal to horror and indie audiences. SCAB presents plenty of raw humanity along with the splatter and shocks. It plays as a strong dramatic character study at the very same moment it aims to scare, disturb, and gross out. You get real people in real disturbing situations. What could be better?’
